A Weekend in Amsterdam

4/20 Anyone?

Jon and I have taken to writing our travel itineraries in a shared note on our iPhones. We’ve tried Google Docs and in our journals, but the notes app has worked the best so far. It is easy to access without wifi and we always have our phones with us. It is also super convenient to share with others if anyone asks for recommendations.

So before I pull up our shared Amsterdam note, let me tell you that weed is very illegal in Finland. So Jon was particularly excited about this trip. Many months of sobriety were finally coming to an end.

Because of Amsterdam’s open drug culture, the whole city felt alive. Especially since Finland was still emerging from the veil of winter, Amsterdam felt particularly energetic. People crowded the streets, bikes lined the sidewalks and flowers budded. Jon and I could not wipe the smiles from our faces. We shirked our heaviest winter coats, and strangers on the street returned our greetings.

We love Finland and we appreciate all the quirks of living here. We also loved the laid-back nature of a 4/20-friendly city.

What We Did

Our Airbnb was a houseboat located in one of the canals. I would highly recommend going this route if you are looking for lodging. It was so fun to open our windows and be right on the canal. Local boats floated by in the morning and party boats boomed through at night. It was a lot of fun.

Okay, anyway, here’s what we did each day…

Day 1

Day 2

Day 3

A canal tour is an absolute must! Make sure you book in advance and screenshot the QR code. We didn’t and regretted it. Somehow, we failed on riding bikes! Which I wasn’t too sad about, but it would have been a cool experience.
